You already know that legendary rapper, TV personality, distiller and wine lover Snoop Dogg has his own 19 Crimes Cali Red and Cali Rosé wines, but did you know he also has a cookbook, From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from tha Boss Dogg's Kitchen (Chronicle, 2018)? And now the old-school hip-hop star's recipes are available on new-school meal-planning app eMeals, which is offering subscribers nine of Snoop’s cookbook recipes and wine pairings in its Dine Like the Doggfather collection.
“It’s really about the recipes and giving folks really cool ideas for meals,” eMeals head of content Scott Jones said, “but also encouraging people to be thinking maybe next level about how to pair food and wine.”
Per Jones, the collection sprang naturally from the work eMeals has done over the past year with Treasury Wine Estates and the 19 Crimes wine brand. In addition to recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and grocery-buying options, eMeals provides users with wine pairings. “19 Crimes was one of the brands that we worked with right out of the gate,” said Jones. And when it came to recommending Snoop’s wines, the eMeals team knew exactly which recipes to match with them.
“We wanted to focus on recipes that we felt really exemplified who Snoop is as a person, his unique style,” said Jones. “Obviously wine is an important part of [Snoop’s] food experience. All of these recipes are just kind of custom-fit for wine pairing.” Along with Snoop Cali Red and the newly released Snoop Cali Rosé, some dishes have been paired with 19 Crimes Cabernet and Hard Chardonnay.
The recipes (all with very on-theme titles) include Snoop’s Yardie Yardbird (a Jamaican-influenced baked chicken), OG Chicken and Waffles, Spaghetti de la Hood and Bow Wow Brownies and Ice Cream. The collection is now accessible to eMeals subscribers (a free two-week trial is available for new users). And while preparation times for each dish may differ, according to Jones they’re all accessible for cooks at any level. “We tested them here when we were figuring out the ones to select,” Jones said. “The recipes are terrific.”
